There is no greater honour than being recognized by one’s own community for the endless effort, dedication, and leadership given to the region and its people.

This past fall, The Greater Stouffville Chamber of Commerce officially inducted Richard (Rick) and Robert (Bob) Schickedanz—along with their late father, Daniel—as permanent members of the Business Hall of Fame. Commending their integrity, community involvement, and commitment to building a better future for generations to come, this acclaim solidifies a family legacy reaching back over 75 years.

From the day he came to Canada in 1950, Daniel Schickedanz put his heart, soul, and hard work into building homes for families across Ontario. It’s on this example that he raised his sons, teaching them the value of community, trust, and leading with a hands-on approach to homebuilding.

But it’s not just about their approach to business. These strong family values have led to philanthropy and community involvement that make Rick and Bob proud figureheads of the region. From coaching and volunteering to working alongside the municipality to meet common goals, they exemplify community commitment and leadership in everything they do.

“Stouffville means a lot to us. Not only from a business perspective, but it’s a warm, welcoming community and we’re happy and pleased to make this investment and be part of this community for a long time,” Bob explained, as he and Rick spoke on the FarSight legacy and what it means to receive this recognition from the municipality.

“My father, he taught me everything in business,” Rick added, “from the framing, from the business side of things, and just building communities that future generations can live in.” Because at the end of the day, that’s what it has always come down to. FarSight Homes is a family business, building homes for families of all shapes and sizes. And when you’re building for families, you treat people like family. That’s what makes the difference.

It is an incredible honour to be memorialized in the Stouffville Business Hall of Fame, both for the Schickedanz family and for all of us at FarSight Homes. We would like to thank not only the Chamber of Commerce, but also the community of Stouffville as a whole, and everyone who has supported the FarSight Family of Builders over the decades.
